Kano state Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of North West Nigeria has strongly condemned the gruesome murder of two young Kano indigenes, Barhama Suleiman and Jamilu Ahmad, in Makurdi, Benue State.

In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Sunusi Bature, Governor Yusuf described the attack which occurred around 11:00 p.m. on Monday as a brutal and unprovoked act carried out by yet-to-be-identified assailants.

Expressing profound sorrow over the incident, Governor Yusuf labelled the killings as “barbaric, senseless, and unacceptable,” and assured that efforts are underway to ensure those responsible are brought to justice.

“It is with a heavy heart and deep sense of loss that we mourn the death of two promising sons of Kano. They were innocent, peace-loving Nigerians whose only crime was exercising their constitutional right to live and work in any part of the country,” the governor stated.

Governor Yusuf also announced plans to personally lead a high-powered delegation, alongside the bereaved families, to attend the funeral prayers of the victims at the National Mosque in Abuja.

He extended his condolences to the grieving families, particularly prominent Islamic scholar, Sheikh Ibrahim Khalil, the father of the deceased.

Describing the tragedy as a loss not only to the families but also to Kano State and the entire nation, Governor Yusuf emphasised his administration’s commitment to justice.

“This government will not rest until the perpetrators are identified and prosecuted. We urge citizens to remain calm and law-abiding as we collaborate with security agencies and the Benue State Government to investigate this heinous act,” he said.

Governor Yusuf reaffirmed the Kano State Government’s commitment to safeguarding the lives and rights of its citizens, wherever they reside across the country.
