Kano Government Inaugurates Committee on Solid Mineral Development

The Kano State Government in Northwest Nigeria has inaugurated a 16-member committee to assess and recommend strategies for harnessing abandoned and underutilised solid mineral resources across the state.

The committee was inaugurated on Monday in Kano by the Deputy Governor, Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo who said the move followed a resolution of the State Executive Council.

He noted that the initiative underscored the administration’s resolve to harness the state’s natural endowments for economic growth.

Informed policy

The Deputy Governor emphasised the need for an informed policy on resource exploration and utilisation,

Kano is blessed with abundant solid minerals that have remained untapped for years. With this team, the sky will be our limit in unlocking the sector’s potential,” Gwarzo said.

According to a statement by the Deputy Governor’s spokesperson, Ibrahim Shuaibu, the committee is chaired by the Deputy Governor with the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry for Solid Minerals, Engineer Mansur Yakubu, serving as secretary.

Other members include Hon. Hamza Safiyanu, AVM Halliru Labaran, Alhaji Aminu Abba Ibrahim, Rt. Hon. Balarabe Saidu Gani, Prof. Ibrahim Garba, Prof. Idris Muslim, Alhaji Saidu Dutse, Alhaji Salisu Warure, Nasir Umar Abubakar, Muhammad Adamu Riruwai, Alhaji Nasiru Inuwa Wada (Magajin Gari), Ibrahim Muhammad Madobi, and Munir Miko Jos.

He described the committee members as high calibre individuals whose expertise would drive results.

The committee has two weeks to submit its report to the government.
