Kano State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to press freedom, constructive engagement with journalists, and the consolidation of democratic values in the state.
Director General, Media and Publicity, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, made the remarks while receiving the newly elected leadership of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kano Correspondents’ Chapel, during a courtesy visit to the Government House.
Led by its new Chairman, Murtala Adewale of The Guardian Newspapers, the executives were warmly received by Bature, who congratulated them on their emergence.

Bature underscored the administration’s recognition of the media as a vital pillar in nation-building and democratic consolidation, noting that the Yusuf government places high value on the contribution of journalists in promoting transparency, accountability, and good governance.
“We sincerely appreciate the role of the Correspondents’ Chapel in bridging the communication gap between the government and the people. Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf is media-friendly and will continue to welcome constructive criticism that promotes good governance and public accountability,” he said.
He stressed the importance of mutual trust and professionalism in media-government relations, assuring the chapel of unhindered access to information for all accredited journalists operating in Kano.
The new Chairman of the Correspondents’ Chapel, Murtala Adewale, commended the state government for its continued partnership with the media and pledged that the new leadership would uphold journalistic ethics and objectivity in reportage.
“We are committed to ensuring accuracy, fairness, and professionalism in our coverage. Stronger collaboration between the government and the media is vital to facilitate timely information flow and promote understanding of state policies and programmes,” Adewale said.
The meeting also provided a platform for interactive dialogue on strengthening government-media relations, enhancing media capacity, and ensuring improved access to credible and official information.
