Kano Government records high in Health administration

The Kano state government in North West Nigeria says, the increase in the Health budget from N40b to N71b has significantly improved the health needs of the people of the state.

The Commissioner of health, Abubakar Yusuf revealed this while rolling out achievements of the ministry from May 2023 to date.

He said, “Through Recruiting and employing of 36 House Officers and 70 Medical Officers to serve at various health facilities in the state, the health indices of the state has improved thereby making health very accessible to the citizens.”

Yusuf explained that, the employment of over 70 additional Nurses & Midwives by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has impacted the health sector as they were deployed to rural health facilities.

According to the Commissioner, “This has led to sustained maternal death review to ascertain actual cause of maternal and child mortality.

“Ensuring competent hands are appointed as heads of agencies.

“Redeployment of the newly employed medical doctors to serve at both the primary and secondary health facilities in the state.

“Rehabilitation of Yadakunya Leprosy Hospital. Drugs and consumables were supplied for free distribution to the patients.

“Renovation and upgrading Nuhu Bamalli and Yadakunya General Hospitals including Muhammad Abdullahi Wase Teaching Hospital.”

Yusuf further noted that, the Kano Government ensured the Restoration of Non-Health Workers salaries (CONHESS) which was removed by the last state administration for more than seven years as well as Purchase of office equipments/working materials to the Ministry.

“Rehabilitation, re-equipping and re-furnishing of Hasiya Bayero Paediatrics Hospital. The facility was re-commissioned by His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Kano state.”

The Kano Health Commissioner explained that, the government procured laboratory equipments and build capacity of staff for better productivity.

He reiterated the commitment of Kano state Government in ensuring better health services in line with the global best practices.
