The Kano State Government has unveiled an ambitious campaign to mobilise at least 10 million eligible residents for Nigeria’s ongoing voter registration and revalidation exercise.
The initiative, established by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, was formally inaugurated in Kano by the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Umar Farouk.
The newly formed committee has been tasked with spearheading an intensive public awareness and mobilisation effort to ensure widespread participation.
The committee brings together a broad coalition of stakeholders, including traditional rulers, religious leaders, women’s organisations, journalists, market associations, and political representatives.
Officials emphasised that the campaign aims to guarantee that no eligible voter in Kano is excluded from the national voter database currently being updated by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Speaking at the inauguration, the SSG said the initiative reflects the government’s determination to ensure that every resident of Kano exercises their civic right in future elections.
“The objective of setting up this committee is to make sure no eligible citizen is excluded from the registration. The government will provide all necessary support to achieve this target,” he assured.
He further directed the committee to intensify awareness campaigns across all 484 wards in the state’s 44 local government areas, stressing that inclusive participation is vital to strengthening democracy.
Responding on behalf of the committee, the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Ibrahim Waiya, pledged total commitment to the assignment.
“We assure the government and people of the state that we will not betray the trust reposed in us. We will work tirelessly to mobilise residents and deliver on the 10 million target,” he said.
