The Kano State Government in Northwest Nigeria has announced its commitment to attracting both domestic and international investors to expand the state’s industrial base. This initiative aims to boost economic growth and development within the region.

The Commissioner of Commerce, Investment, and Industry, Shehu Sagagi, revealed this while speaking to journalists in Kano.

He said among the top in his agenda is the creation of clusters for a hub of traits, which he believes will flourish with the right support.

Sagagi noted plans to collaborate with the federal government to ensure that businesses have access to the resources they need to succeed for the benefit of the state, Nigeria and the African continent.

He noted that revitalising the state’s economy will remain his top priority, as well as the creation of clusters for a hub of trades, which he believes will flourish with the right support.

According to Sagagi, plans are on to collaborate with the Ministry of Agriculture and Land to ensure that businesses have access to the resources they need to succeed.

He said his ministry would work closely with the Ministry of Environment to ensure that markets in the state are healthy and attractive to investors.

The commissioner maintained that the government plans to bring back cooperative shops, which will provide citizens with access to commodities at cheaper rates.

“Governor Abba Kabir has approved the refurbishing of the garment industries, which was initiated by former Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.

”The government plans to create an avenue for youths to receive training in the garment industry, enabling them to become self-employed and employers of labour.

”Over 600 youths in each local government area are expected to benefit from this program.”

Sagagi also emphasised the importance of ensuring that companies operating in the state employ Kano indigenes and observe their corporate social responsibility.

He said his ministry plans to collect data on foreigners doing business in Kano to prevent them from crushing small businesses operated by indigenes.
