The Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to maintaining a harmonious working relationship with the media.

Governor Yusuf, represented by his deputy, Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, made the pledge on Tuesday while receiving the National President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Comrade Alhassan Yahaya, and members of the NUJ National Executive Council (NEC) who are in Kano for their meeting.

“These promises include infrastructure development, education, health, agriculture, and youth and women empowerment,” he said, assuring that the government would continue to roll out more projects to improve the lives of the people.

The deputy governor commended the NUJ for choosing Kano for its NEC meeting, describing it as a testament to the cordial relationship between the state government and the media. He also lauded the union’s role in upholding democracy, promoting accountability, and educating the public.

“Our government is media-friendly and will continue to provide all the necessary support to ensure the press operates in a free, responsible, and enabling environment,” he added.

NUJ President Comrade Alhassan Yahaya thanked the Kano State Government for hosting the NEC meeting and praised the state’s developmental strides, which the delegation observed during an inspection tour of the metropolis.

“We are overwhelmed with the progress so far in terms of infrastructural transformation taking place in Kano,” he said.

He also commended the state government for supporting the media and called for the sustenance of the gesture.

Earlier, the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Ibrahim Waiya, welcomed the NUJ executives and wished them fruitful deliberations, stressing the importance of strong collaboration between the government and the media.

The NUJ NEC meeting is expected to deliberate on key issues affecting journalism in Nigeria, including media welfare, safety of journalists, and strategies for safeguarding press freedom.
