The Technical Adviser to the Kano State Governor on Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Aminu Magashi Garba, has presented a draft bill for the establishment of a Kano State Humanitarian Intervention Trust Fund to key stakeholders for input and contributions.
The Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Adamu Aliyu Kibiya, said the proposed bill aligned with the state government’s development agenda and the Federal Government’s policy of strengthening sustainable funding mechanisms for humanitarian interventions nationwide.

He said the establishment of the Trust Fund would ensure timely support for vulnerable citizens during disasters, epidemics, emergencies and other humanitarian crises, describing it as a significant milestone for the ministry.
According to the Commissioner, public confidence in Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s prudent management of public resources would encourage individuals and organisations to contribute to the fund once it was established.
Presenting the draft bill, Garba explained that the proposed legislation clearly outlined the sources of funding, management structure and operational guidelines of the Trust Fund.
He disclosed that the bill proposed the allocation of 2.5 per cent of Kano State’s monthly internally generated revenue to the fund, as well as 0.5 per cent of monthly revenue accruing to local governments from federal allocations.
Other proposed funding sources, according to him, included donations from companies, industries, local and international organisations, and individuals.
