Kano: New Information Commissioner Pledges to Elevate State Media

The newly appointed Kano State Commissioner for Information, Ibrahim Waiya, has vowed to revamp the state’s government-owned media organisations to meet global standards.

Waiya made this commitment during his inaugural address at the Kano State Ministry of Information, shortly after assuming office.

Outlining his vision, the commissioner emphasised that his administration would introduce innovative measures aimed at enhancing the performance and reach of state-owned media outlets. He also underscored his commitment to prioritizing staff welfare and professional capacity building to ensure the delivery of quality services.

Waiya stated that timely and accurate dissemination of information is crucial in combating fake news, misinformation, and yellow paper journalism.

He added that improving the credibility of the state’s media sector would be a cornerstone of his leadership.

Waiya assured ministry employees and staff of affiliated agencies that he would work diligently to secure prompt payment of allowances and overtime, fostering an environment conducive to achieving set objectives.

Highlighting the broader goals of the Kano State Government under Governor Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, Waiya reiterated the administration’s commitment to good governance and accountability.

He pledged to ensure that citizens receive accurate and necessary information as part of efforts to build trust and transparency.

A longtime human rights activist, the commissioner also extended an open invitation to community-based organisations (CBOs) to collaborate on initiatives aimed at advancing the state’s development.

Waiya concluded by appealing to ministry staff and relevant stakeholders to support his vision, emphasizing the importance of teamwork in achieving the ministry’s goals.

On arrival, Waiya was received by the permanent secretary, directors, staff of the Kano State Ministry of Information, CBOs, political officeholders, and top government functionaries among others.

He was among the 7 commissioners sworn in by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.
