The Kano State Police Command has arrested a 20-year-old suspect, Usman Sagiru of Sharifai Quarters, in connection with the fatal stabbing of a vigilante member during Emir Sanusi Lamido Sanusi II’s Eid entourage.
Police spokesperson, SP Abdullahi Kiyawa said the incident occurred as worshippers dispersed from the Eid prayer ground.
Sagiru and others, now at large, allegedly attacked and stabbed Surajo Rabiu, a vigilante from Sabon Titi Jaba Quarters, who later died from his injuries. Another vigilante, Aminu Suleman from Kofar Mata Quarters, sustained injuries and is receiving treatment at Murtala Mohammed Specialists Hospital.
Kiyawa said that “the police have launched a full investigation and have invited Shamakin Kano, Alhaji Wada Isyaku, for questioning regarding the incident.”
Reaffirming the Police command’s ban on all forms of Durbar celebrations, Kiyawa warned that violators would face severe consequences.
“All forms of thuggery (Daba) will not be tolerated. Anyone engaging in activities that may threaten public peace will be arrested and prosecuted,” he stated.
Kiyawa urged the public to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies to ensure a peaceful and secure environment.
