The Kano State Command of the Nigeria Police has arrested and paraded 96 suspected criminals, including 2 fake military and 2 fake customs officers in a mop-up operation as the May 29 handover date approaches in the ancient commercial city.
The suspects were arrested from various locations of the state on offences bordering on kidnapping, robbery, drug trafficking, car theft, armed robbery and phone snatching among others
The Commissioner of Police in charge of Kano state, CP Hussein Gumel said the effort is to ensure a successful and hitch-free transition for the May 29, 2023, Kano State Governorship Inauguration.
“The police have continually intensified the drive for policing and other relevant engagements with concerted intelligence-led operations, aimed at enhancing peace and security,‘ he said.
Gumel noted that 52 suspects were arrested for mobile phone robbery, while many phones were recovered and over 150 illicit drug substances were also apprehended.
“(20) Cartons of Codeine Syrup, forty-five (45) parcels, three hundred and three (303) wraps of Dried Leaves Suspected to be cannabis, Suspected Exol Tablets, thirty (30) Pieces of Suspected Diazepam, thirty (30) Pieces of Suck and Die, etc.”
He maintained that other items recovered include three (3) Locally Made Guns, some deadly fabricated weapons, four (4) Motor Vehicles, two (2) Tricycles, six (6) Motorcycles, one (1) Roll of Power Cables, two (2) Plasma TV, one (1) Air Conditioner, two (2) Jerricans of 25litres of Palm Oil, A Gas of Cylinder, A Ceiling Fan, some Wrist Watches and twenty-eight (28) peg-irons symbol in a cemetery for grave identification, among others.
The CP expressed the readiness of the command to continue working with the required sacrifices and diligent commitments alongside the synergy with relevant stakeholders to resolutely pursue the vision and mission of the Inspector-General of Police.
He then appealed to the General populace not to relent in giving the needed support to the security agencies, with the aim of achieving the set objectives.
