The Nigerian Police Force in Kano state North West Nigeria, has presented cheques amounting to the sum of forty million, six hundred and eighteen thousand sixty-eight naira seventeen kobo to eighty-eight the Next of Kin of deceased Police Officers and victims of accidents.
Handing over the cheques, Kano Police Commissioner CP Mohammed Usaini Gumel, urged the beneficiaries to use the money judiciously for the upkeep and welfare of their families as well as taking care of their health.
The Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Group Life Assurance is also known as IGP Welfare and Group Personal Accident Insurance Schemes
CP Gumel explained that, the IGP’s welfare scheme was meant to ameliorate the sufferings faced by the deceased family before the benefits of such officers are paid and also to augment the health of the victims of accidents.
The Commissioner of Police who prayed for the departed souls as well as wishing a speedy recovery for the victims of the accidents, advised the family of the affected officers to always make consultation with the Police leadership to avoid being cheated by others.
Overwhelmed by the gesture of the Inspector General of Police, the beneficiaries promised to make good use of the money as it comes in a time of need.
CP Gumel used the occasion to remind the supervising officers of the Command to be committed in upholding the highest standards of professionalism and integrity in their duty, ensuring that the forthcoming staggered election in six LGAs of the State is conducted in line with the principles of fairness and transparency.
He appreciates them for their efforts in fighting crime and criminality, urging them to be resolute and steadfast in their duties.
Hospital Visit
Meanwhile, the Kano State Police Commissioner also visited Murtala Muhammed Specialists Hospital, Kano where a patient relative was alleged to have assaulted a medical Doctor.
According to Kano Deputy Police Public Relations officer ACP Abdullahi Hussaini; “On 28/01/2024 at about 2015hrs, a report was received that one Shehu Usman Abdulwahab, ‘m’, a medical Doctor at Murtala Muhammed Specialist Hospital Kano was assaulted by aggrieved relatives of a female patient who died in the process of delivery at the maternity section. On receipt of the report, a team of Policemen were immediately detailed to the scene.”
He explained that, the Commissioner of Police visited the Hospital, met with the hospital’s management and assessed the security situation of the facility where he assured them of the Kano Police commitment in handling the matter.
Hussaini said, the CP also ordered the deployment of more personnel to ensure security in the Hospital.
