The Kano state Internal Revenue Service, KIRS, has distanced itself from the allegations of fund diversion and involvement in any political campaign in the state.

A statement signed by the Head of corporate communication, KIRS, Alh. Rabiu Saleh Rimingado and made available to journalists, reaffirmed the commitment of the agency to its statutory responsibility of revenue service.

“KIRS as the non-partisan agency has no affiliation and engagement with any individual or group of people regarding the purchase of vehicles or for any purpose,” said Rabiu.

Reacting to a statement issued by one of the political parties, alleging the involvement of KIRS in political funding, Rabiu declared that the agency is a public service agency statutorily entrusted to generate revenue.

“The service will not hesitate to take legal action against any individual or group of persons bent to drag the service to needless political issues or tarnish the image of the service,” he said.

A political party has issued a media statement accusing KIRS of diverting public resources to purchase vehicles for political campaigns.

It is against the statutory law in Nigeria for any government institution, whether state or federal to sponsor political activities in the country.
