The Kano State Government in North West Nigeria has commenced the implementation of the newly approved minimum wage of N71,000 for its workers.

The development is coming three weeks after the state government received the committee report reviewing the new wage.

According to Head of Civil Service Kano State, Alhaji Abdullahi Musa, the implementation of the new minimum wage is a fulfillment of the pledge of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.

The new minimum wage is expected to increase the state’s monthly salary obligations by N6 billion, with an additional N7 billion needed for the 44 local government councils.

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf emphasized the government’s commitment to social justice, economic growth, and enhanced living standards for state workers and citizens.

In addition to the implementation of the new wage, the Kano State Government has also commenced payments of all allowances of health workers in the state.

Meanwhile, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Kano State Council, has commended Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for his commitment to the implementation of the new ₦71,000 minimum wage for workers in the state.
