The Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), has held a workshop for teachers and caregivers on child care education in Kano State.
The UBEC Executive Secretary, Dr Hammid Bobboyi said that; “Early child care education is a yardstick for nurturing a child’s educational development as this will enhance early stimulation and transition into primary school.”
The Executive Secretary who was represented by the Deputy Executive Secretary, Technical, Prof. Bala Zakari explained that the capacity building workshop is basically “Learning with play,” brain and physical development of a child, improvisation of low/no cost teaching and learning materials as well as curriculum utilization and implementation on the one-year pre-primary curriculum, so as to boost the teaching ability and to support them in managing contemporary challenges in the implementation of the UBE program.
Bobboyi applauded the efforts of all caregivers of stakeholders involved in the process of ensuring that the capacity building becomes a success.
According to the Director of Special Programs, Dr Ene Adikwu, the training is aimed at familiarizing participants with the skills and techniques of Reggio Emilia and other approaches.
She stressed that the success of every childhood care and education depends on the collective effort of all stakeholders who are saddled with the responsibility of impacting knowledge on the children through early stimulation, care and language skill among others.
She called on the stakeholders to give all seriousness it deserves in order to ensure that the training is put into good use.
UBEC has constructed 64 well equipped UBEC direct intervention Model Learning Centres in 6 geo-political zones in 23 states and FCT.
