Ahead of Sallah festivities, the 15th Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero, has announced the decision to to reverse his plan to hold a parallel Sallah durbar procession in the ancient city.

He cited the importance to maintain peace and stability in the Northern commercial city.

The development comes amid rising tension in the state, as both the 16th Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II and Emir Aminu Bayero had initially planned separate traditional Sallah durbar celebrations which sparked concerns over potential unrest.

A press statement by Chief Press Secretary to the Emir Bayero, Abubakar Balarabe said, Bayero cited security concerns as reasons for suspending the eid el fitr Sallah durbar arrangements.

Bayero described the Durbar celebration is not a do or die situation with us as the peaceful coexistence of the people is much paramount to us than anything.

The Emir, noted that he had to cancel the Sallah Dubar due to the efforts of respected Islamic Clerics, elders, stakeholders, as well as his council members who prevailed on him to do so in the interest of peace.

“This decision follows advice by our respected religious leaders. We have special regards for them. This is in addition to calls by elders and the deliberations we made with our council members.”

He called on the people of the state to use the period of Sallah celebration instead to visit families and friends with the opportunity of witnessing the Sallah celebration.
