The Kano State Government in North West Nigeria, has expanded its women empowerment initiative to reach 6,680 beneficiaries across the state, in a renewed effort to boost livelihoods and promote inclusive economic growth.

The programme, part of the Kano Monthly Empowerment Scheme introduced by the administration of the Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, provides financial support to women aimed at strengthening households and reducing poverty.

Speaking during the disbursement ceremony, Governor Yusuf said the initiative reflects his administration’s commitment to uplifting vulnerable groups and fostering community development.

He explained that the number of beneficiaries has increased from 5,200 to 6,680 women drawn from all the 44 local government areas of the state.

Each beneficiary will receive N50,000 financial support to assist in small-scale businesses and family upkeep.

According to the governor, the programme goes beyond financial assistance, describing it as a strategic investment in human capital development and social protection.

Governor Yusuf added that the initiative aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, which focuses on improving the welfare of citizens and ensuring sustainable economic growth.

He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to policies that prioritize women, youths, and vulnerable populations, noting that several empowerment programmes have already been implemented, including youth funding initiatives and social support schemes.

The governor urged beneficiaries to “make judicious use of the funds to improve your economic status and contribute to the development of your communities.”

Also speaking, the Commissioner for Women Affairs, Hajiya Amina Abdullahi, commended the governor’s dedication to women empowerment, describing the initiative as a major step toward reducing poverty among women in the state.

She revealed that the government has also adopted a Women’s Economic Empowerment Policy aimed at lifting two million women out of poverty by 2029, adding that the ministry will continue to support programmes that enhance women’s economic independence.

The commissioner encouraged beneficiaries to invest the funds wisely, emphasizing that the programme is designed to create sustainable livelihoods and long-term prosperity.

The Kano Monthly Empowerment Programme is one of several social intervention initiatives introduced by the state government to improve living standards and promote inclusive development.
