The newly posted Commissioner of Police to Kano state, Mamman Dauda says plans have been mapped out to deepen the community policing strategy down to the grassroots to help reduce crime in the ancient commercial city of Kano.
The commissioner stated this during his median interactive session with officers of the command and the media at the Police Officers Mess, Bompai, Kano state North-Western Nigeria.
He said the strategy will be based on deepening the implementation of community policing to the grass root level aimed at addressing ethical and professional issues that impact trust between the police and the public.
He said for effectiveness, the command will partner with other security agencies in the state and other critical stakeholders, which includes: traditional rulers, religious leaders, CSOs, Members of the Police Community Relations Committee, NGOs, The Media, Human Rights Groups and others.
“Use of technologies in operations and investigations, intelligence-led policing as well as visibility policing will be encouraged.
“Strengthening the communication unit of the command, synergy with sister security agencies and community policing stakeholders, sustaining Operation Restore Peace, Public enlightenment and sensitization via the media will form the basis for our anti-crime action plan.
“We will continue to engage Officers and Men of the command in regular seminars, workshops, training and re-training, especially in the areas of administration, operations and investigations to meet the demands of the dynamic society,” stressed CP Dauda.
He said as momentum gathers toward the 2023 general elections, the command will continue to engage political party leaders to ensure a peaceful electioneering process.
He said communication facilities donated to the command in view of the election will soon be deployed to special units
“We have received 100 pieces of telephone lines from a combined team of AMG Foundation, YOSPIS and CHR led by Dr. Aminu Magashi, which will be deployed to the 78 police divisions, 11 area commands and other special police units.
“The facilities will be used to support security as well as used to solicit assistance from the public with vital information before, during and even after the elections,” he said.
He urged officers and men of the command to strictly adhere to provisions of the Nigerian constitution, and the police act and respect rights in line with International Best Practices to ensure effective and efficient service delivery to citizens of Kano state.
Kano state Chairman of NUJ, Comrade Abbas Ibrahim gave assurances of continuous support and cooperation of journalists in ensuring a crime-free Kano state, while requesting for strengthening of trust between the media and police.
The CEO of AMG Foundation, Dr. Aminu Magashi said the phones donated to the command allow the callers within the 100 lines to communicate freely for 10 hours in a month and the subscription for 1 year has been settled by the foundation to allow effective communication towards achieving efficient service delivery to citizens of the state. The interactive session also witnessed the presentation of a commendation letter from the Governor of Kano state, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje to ACP Daniel Amah for rejecting a bribe of 200,000 dollars.
