Kano State Chapter of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has announced the suspension of four serving members of the National Assembly from the state.

The State Chairman of the Party, Alhaji Hashimu Dungurawa announced this in an interview with journalists in Kano, North West Nigeria.

He said, the suspended members of the party includes Senator Kawu Sumaila, representatives Ali Madakin Gini, Sani Abdullahi Rogo, and Kabiru Alhassa Rurum.

Dungurawa said they were suspended over allegations of anti-party activities.

According to Dungurawa, “these National Assembly members were elected under the NNPP platform but have recently engaged in activities contrary to the party’s wishes, beliefs, and moral principles.”

He noted that they were given complementary tickets during the party elections, but instead of showing gratitude, they have been working against the party’s interests.

A recent incident that sparked the suspension was Senator Kawu Sumaila’s daughter’s wedding and the commissioning of projects at his university in Sumaila.

Dungurawa expressed surprise that those who attended were mostly individuals who had worked against Kawu in the past, while no party members were invited.

Dungurawa explained that, a committee would be set up to investigate the issue and address it once and for all.

Despite the suspension, Dungurawa emphasized that there is still room for dialogue, and if the suspended members repent and seek forgiveness, the party may consider reinstating them.

Efforts to reach any of the suspended members proved abortive.
