The Police in Kano state, North West Nigeria, has announced that they have completed all necessary arrangements to ensure the protection of lives and properties during Nigeria’s forthcoming Independence anniversary celebration.
The Police spokesperson Kano State Command SP Abdullahi Kiyawa revealed this at a media briefing in Kano while Parading 89 suspects.
On the planned October 1st nationwide protest, SP Kiyawa noted that security deployments have been concluded at strategic locations in the State to forestall any likely security threats.
He urged Kano State residents to cooperate with the Police as well as other security agencies and observe the Independence Day Celebration responsibly, adhering to all safety guidelines and respecting the rights of others.

Meanwhile, the Police in Kano have paraded 89 notorious suspects who were arrested in connection with various offences.
The Police spokesperson SP Kiyawa said, the Kano command also, rescued kidnapped and human trafficking victims as well as recovered illicit drugs, dangerous weapons, and stolen properties including a vehicle as well as the Sum of One Million, Five Hundred and Twenty-Three Thousand Naira
(N1, 523,000:00) Suspected to be proceeds of crime.
He explained that “Fifty- three (53) suspects have been charged to court while thirty-six (36) are under investigation”.
He attributed the success to community-oriented and intelligence-led policing, as the Command embarked on robust community engagements, intelligence-led operations and round-the-clock visibility patrols in Kano State.
Kiyawa said, “The Command will continue to adapt these strategies to address and surmount any likely emerging security challenges.
As we celebrate these successes, we acknowledge that there is still much work to be done. Therefore, the Command will remain committed to its constitutional mandate work of providing effective and efficient policing services to the people of Kano State in line with the vision and mission of the Inspector-General of Police.”
“I would like to seize this opportunity to commiserate with the officers and men of this Command as well as the families of the five officers who lost their lives in active service as a result of a tragic motor accident on Tuesday, 23 September 2024 at Karfi Village in Kura LGA 0f the State, along Zaria-Kano Expressway, while returning to Kano after an official assignment.”
