Kano State Re-run: Police Arrests Suspected Political Thugs

The Kano State Police Command has arrested dozens of suspected Political thugs allegedly hired to disrupt the rerun election process in some part of the state.

Commissioner of Police, CP, Mohammed Gumel who disclosed this while speaking with newsmen, said the suspected thugs were arrested in possession of arms alleged hired by an alleged politician contesting in the election.

The thugs were arrested around Kunchi/Tsanyawa area, the constituency INEC announced disruption of the rerun election process.

CP Gumel said, “we saw a truck that is faulty by the road side. We saw people in large number by the roadside. At first, they gave us impression that it was the fuel of the vehicle that got finished. But upon close observation, we saw them in possession of arms. 

“We suspect they are in the bush to lay ambush on the electoral officers while on their way with the election results,” CP Gumel said.

He explained that no violence was recorded in the re-run elections across the affected six local government areas of three constituencies.

In Tsanyawa local government area, it was observed that some youths reportedly snatched ballot boxes during the exercise.

Meanwhile, voting has since ended as the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC is expected to announce winners of the Rerun Election in Kano state.
