Kano State Receives National Sports Festival’s Torch Of Unity
Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir-Yusuf, on Monday received the Torch of Unity, presented by a delegation from the National Sports Commission (NSC), ahead of the forthcoming National Sports Festival scheduled to hold in Ogun State from May 16th – 30th, 2025.
The governor during a brief presentation in Kano, welcomed the team to the State and appreciated them for bringing a message of peace and unity. Represented by Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Umar Faruk-Ibrahim, the governor said that the country needed peace and unity at this time.
He promised to support any initiative geared towards ensuring peace, adding that the state would present athletes for sporting events at the festival to enable them showcase their talents to the world. Yusuf, therefore, reaffirmed the state’s preparedness to participate fully in the sports fiesta.
“Sports play a significant role in promoting unity, discipline, love and friendship among citizens,” Yusuf said.
Earlier, Ikana Mbora, the Team leader from the commission, thanked the state government for a befitting reception accorded them and promised adequate security during the programme. She commended the state government for its commitment to sports development and support for athletes.
Mbora added that the 2025 festival, tagged Gateway Games, would be a worthwhile experience and would feature a wide range of sports, including football, volleyball and basketball.
She said that scores of athletes from various states would be participating in various sporting events to showcase their talents.
