The Kano State Government in North-West Nigeria has unveiled plans to enhance the state’s transportation system by introducing additional Compressed Natural Gas (CNG)-powered buses.
This initiative aims to address public transportation challenges following the removal of the fuel subsidy.
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf announced this in Kano while unveiling 10 CNG buses procured by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC).
Governor Yusuf commended the NLC for selecting Kano as the launchpad for the initiative and assured the Labour body of continuous collaboration to foster mutual support and development.
He said 30 of 80 luxurious buses, previously abandoned by the past administration, will be converted to CNG for public use, while the remaining 50 buses will be dedicated to transporting students daily.
Recognising the need for sustainable vehicle maintenance, the governor announced plans to establish a fully equipped CNG service centre.
