Katsina State Hosts Workshop on Empowering Rural Communities for Development

The Katsina State Department of Social and Rural Development has organised a one-day workshop to raise awareness in communities across the state’s 34 local government areas about government policies and programs aimed at promoting sustainable development.

With the theme “Empowering Rural Communities: Unlocking Opportunities for Sustainable Livelihood Across Katsina State,” the workshop was officially opened by Governor Malam Dikko Umaru Radda at the Local Government Service Commission’s conference hall in Katsina.

The event brought together various community development stakeholders to discuss and explore strategies for sustainable progress.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the workshop, the Special Adviser to Katsina State Governor on Rural and Social Development, Honorable Abubakar Tsanni, maintained that the workshop was aimed at enlightening rural community dwellers on governor Radda’s policies and programmes designed to uplift the living condition of state populace, especially those living in rural areas.

“Today’s gathering is a clear testimony on governor Radda’s commitment to inclusive development, recognizing the vital roles rural communities play in our economic growth.

“I believed that the event will be an eye opener to the participants on the efforts of the state government under the able leadership of our amiable governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda who initiates various government policies aimed at improving quality of lives in our rural areas,” he said.

He commended the state governor, Malam Dikko Radda for his giant stride towards initiating various programmes among which include agricultural programmes to boost food security and economic empowerment through timely distribution of fertilizer across the state at subsidized prices to the real farmers.

Abubakar Tsanni also commended the governor for employing extension workers to assist farmers on their farming activities to boost production and bring about bumper harvest, also commending the governor for his plan on the introduction of all year-round mechanized farming aimed at engaging rural communities for sustainable livelihood.

He also informed the gathering that the participants will be enlightened about economic empowerment schemes for women and youth.

“Today, in this gathering, you will get to know more of what the state government is planning for all of us in human capital development toward improving small, medium scale enterprises (SMEs) for self-sustainable livelihood across 34 local government in the state.

“This workshop aims to educate participants on state government policies to foster collaboration between communities and government agencies, and to also identify challenges and solutions for sustainable development,” he added.

The special adviser urged the participants to actively participate, share their experiences and provide valuable feedback.

“It is golden opportunity to ensure we understand the direction of the government toward building our future for sustainable livelihood.

“We expect each local government chairman and his team to participate fully for effective understanding and stand to be good ambassadors at respective local government toward sensitizing communities to embrace state administration’s policies aimed at boosting our business enterprises and engaging it to self-sustainable livelihood at our rural areas.”

The workshop featured interactive session between the participants and resource persons from some agencies toward sensitizing the participants on the various government initiatives.

Resource persons from the Katsina State Enterprises Development Agency (KASEDA), Bank of Industry (BOI), and Sterling Bank, in collaboration with the state government, provided detailed guidance to educate participants on accessing and benefiting from various programs aimed at creating sustainable livelihoods, particularly for rural community members across the state.
