Katsina State Inaugurates Minimum Wage Implementation Committee

The Katsina state Government has inaugurated a committee for the implementation of 70,000 naira minimum wage in the state in line with present realities in the country, following fuel subsidy removal by the Federal Government.

The inauguration ceremony presided over by the Deputy Governor of the state, Malam Farouk Lawal Jobe was held on Friday at the Deputy Governor’s residence in Katsina

Farouk Jobe said “We are gathered here to inaugurate a committee set up by his excellency, the governor of Katsina state, Malam Dikko Radda for the implementation of 70,000 naira minimum wage with consequential adjustment to all categories of workers in the state.

“This covers the state civil servants, the Local Government Employees and staff of Local Education Authorities and all categories of workers in the state”.

He pointed out that the state government is aware of the hardship being encountered by the civil servants as a result of subsidy withdrawal and other economic measures bring implemented in the country which prompted the setting up of the committee to come up with the strategy for the government to be able to implement the 70,000 naira minimum wage.

The deputy governor, said, in the committee assigned with the responsibility are the secretary to the state government, Barrister Abdullahi Garba Faskari as Chairman.

Members of the committee include Head of Civil Service of the state, Falalu Baw the commissioners of budget and economic planning, for Finance and that of Local Government, the Accountant General of the state.

Other members of the Committee are the Auditor General for the state and that of the Local Government.

“State chairmen NLC and TUC, the Chairmen NULGE and that of ALGON are also members of the Committee.

“While the Permanent Secretary Establishment and Training from the office of the Head of Service is to serve as Secretary of the committee”, the Deputy Governor stated.

He said, the committee has three weeks within which to submit its report to the Government of the state.

In his acceptance speech, the chairman of the committee, Abdullahi Garba Faskari thanked the state Governor, Malam Dikko Radda and by extension the Deputy Governor for finding him and all the members worthy to serve in the committee.

He assured to justify the confidence reposed in them by the Governor and the people of the state.

“I want urge members of our committee to to give their maximum cooperation to come up with workable modalities for the implementation of 70,000 naira minimum wage in the state”, Faskari added.
