Katsina State to establish Commission for PLWD

The Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the Katsina state Governor on Disabled Matters, Usman Hudu has assured people living with disabilities in the state that the state Governor, Dikko Umar Radda will soon approve the establishment of Disabled Commission in the state.

Usman Hudu stated this in an interview with news men in Katsina.

According to the Senior Special Assistant, already, the state’s House of Assembly has passed into Law the bill for the establishment of the Disabled  Commission in the state.

“Interestingly, the bill  has been passed into law by the Katsina state House of Assembly and is now before our amiable Governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda whom Iam optimistic that he will soon assent to it and direct for the commission’s establishment, which we expect before the end of this year.

“My office is working round the clock toward ensuring that this commission has come to reality in this state”, S.S.A. stated.

He added that “if established, the commission will ensure  budgetary provisions that cater for of all matters relate to the well being of people living with disabilities”.

The Senior Special Assistant pointed out that as of now his office neither has budget no overhead but out of his wisdom, the Governor supports the day to day activitiesof the office, before the commission be established.

He disclosed that the state government has directed that the abandoned rehabilitation centers for the disabled persons in the state be revisited in order to rehabilitate and upgrade them so that disable persons can be admitted for various skills acquisition in order to become self reliants, there by taking them off begging on the streets.

“We are making round the state to find out the situation of the centres and we have now taking census of all persons with special needs across the atate, forms have been sent to every local government areas for them to fill it.

“All these the Governor is doing is to ensure that the life of every person with special need is supported and uplifted”, Hudu said.

He called on all the people with special needs in the state to cooperate with the current census exercise in order to give the state government better opportunity to improve their lives and make them productive people in the society.
