Katsina State, World Bank Disburse Educational Materials to Special Needs Students

Katsina State Government, in collaboration with a World Bank-funded project, the ‘Transforming Education System At State Level (TESS)’ has provided instructional materials to students with special needs in the state.

The equipment and learning materials for the students with special needs were part of the 200,000 instructional materials procured and launched by Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda in Katsina, the state capital.

The TESS Project represents a Strategic and Visionary response to the pressing challenges confronting the education sector. It addresses key areas of concern that bring access, equity, quality, and accountability to transform schools into centers of excellence.

The equipment and learning resources distributed for the school for the blind and the deaf included portable typewriters, talking calculators, braille slates, operational computers, wheelchairs, and bicycles among others.

Speaking during the distribution ceremony, the state project Coordinator of TESS, Binta Ahmad Abdulmumini said, the distribution of the equipment and instructional materials exemplified the state’s commitment to transforming the education sector.

“This occasion exemplified the unwavering dedication of the government of Katsina State to fostering a robust and dynamic educational ecosystem, one that not only tackles immediate needs but also lays a firm foundation for sustainable societal and economic growth.

“As we are launching this educational material, we want to take this opportunity to distribute special needs equipment and instructional materials,” she said.

She reaffirmed the commitment of the project to shaping a brighter and more inclusive future for children in the state

The Coordinator also pledged the project resolve to continue creating an education system that not only meets the needs of today but also equips children to seize the opportunities and overcome the challenges of tomorrow.

She praised Governor Radda and the project’s implementing partners, stakeholders, and the dedicated project team for their collaboration which has been instrumental in bringing the initiative to fruition.

The Principal of the School For the Blind in Katsina, Malam Lawal Jibril who received the materials expressed appreciation for the magnanimity of the state government, the TESS Project, and all the partners for providing the resources, noting that the items will further motivate both the teachers and students in the special learning environment, assuring adequate arrangements for maximum utilization.

“This strategic approach demonstrates the commitments of Malam Dikko Radda’s administration toward achieving inclusive education in the state,” he added.

Other important items distributed during the occasion included an 18-seater Project vehicle, 25,000 copies of Fortune Mathematics, Computers, and English Books Series for Primary 4 to 6.

The occasion also witnessed the distribution of 20,000 Tablets (Smartphones) for teachers and CCTV Cameras to create a safer learning environment at schools and 70 motorcycles for Primary school monitors as well as the distribution of bags, school uniforms, exercise books, stationary among many other learning material to improve teaching and learning in the state.
