The Governor of Kebbi State, Nasir Idris, has commended the Voice of Nigeria (VON) for promoting the ideals of subregional integration under the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).

Idris made the remark in a goodwill message during a Forum organised by VON in collaboration with the Ministry of Information and National Orientation held at the Shehu Yar’Adua Centre in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital.

The VON Forum, themed “51 Years of Nigeria’s Role in Deepening Democratic Stability in ECOWAS,” brought together key stakeholders to discuss Nigeria’s contributions to the subregion.

Represented by the Kebbi State Commissioner for Information and Culture, Yakubu Ahmed, the Governor, who attended as Special Guest, said that Voice of Nigeria continues to promote national unity and progress.

He highlighted Nigeria’s leadership role in advancing democracy and economic integration across West Africa.

Idris also noted recent divisions within ECOWAS, which have seen some Sahel countries exit the bloc.

He stressed the need for renewed efforts to strengthen unity in the subregion to support democratic governance and economic development.

Idris added that Kebbi State, which shares borders with two ECOWAS countries, stands to benefit economically if regional cooperation is enhanced to boost trade and commerce.

The Governor further emphasised that insecurity in the subregion can be more effectively addressed through collective action and intelligence sharing.
