The Federal Ministry of Health has distributed 3,000 doses of vaccines to Kebbi State to combat the outbreak of Cerebrospinal Meningitis (CSM), which has claimed 56 lives.

According to Doctor Shehu Nuhu KoKo, Permanent Secretary of the Kebbi Ministry for Health, the vaccines have been dispatched to the worst-affected areas, including Gwandu, Jega, and Alieru Local Government Areas of the State.
“Over 653 suspected cases of CSM have been reported statewide,
17 samples have been sent to the National Reference Laboratory in Abuja for analysis, and 25 deaths have been recorded in Gwandu, 16 in Jega, and 14 in Alieru said Dr Koko.
Governor Nasir Idris has ordered the deployment of additional medical personnel and resources to the affected areas.
The Kebbi State University of Science and Technology has also been affected, with mortalities recorded.
A medical surveillance team has visited the institution, and the government has designated the university’s clinic as an isolation center.
Doctor KoKo emphasized the importance of preventive measures, including: the need to avoid overcrowding, ensure adequate ventilation, and wash hands regularly other have to do with accessibility to nearest health facilities if experiencing fever, severe headache, neck stiffness, vomiting, or dizziness, and the need to void visiting patients in isolation camps.
The Permanent Secretary commended Governor Idris for his prompt response and thanked development partners, including Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF), for their support.
