The Kebbi State Government has announced the rescheduling of the 61st Argungu International Fishing and Cultural Festival from February 2025 to 2026.
This decision was made public by Senator Umar Abubakar Tafida, Deputy Governor of Kebbi State and Chairman of the festival committee.
According to Senator Tafida, the decision to reschedule the festival was necessitated by the need to carry out permanent repairs on the festival venue’s structures.
Additionally, ongoing road dualization and departmental projects in Argungu Township, as well as other peculiar reasons, contributed to the shifting of the festival.
The Argungu International Fishing and Cultural Festival is a significant event in Nigeria, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of Kebbi State.
The festival, which has been recognized by UNESCO as part of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, attracts thousands of tourists from around the world.
Senator Tafida emphasized the state government’s commitment to organizing the best fishing and cultural festival, highlighting the importance of preserving the state’s cultural heritage.
The festival’s rescheduling to 2026 is expected to allow for adequate preparations and ensure a successful event.
