KECHEMA partners traditional rulers for enhanced healthcare delivery

The Kebbi Contributory Healthcare Management Agency (KECHEMA) has disclosed that it will sustain the engagement of traditional rulers in creating awareness for enhanced healthcare delivery in the state. The Executive Secretary of the agency, Dr Jafar Muhammad-Augie, made this known when he led some staff of the agency on a Sallah homage to the Emir of Gwandu,  Alhaji Muhammadu  Iliyasu-Bashar, at the  Abdullahi Fodiyo Palace in Birnin-Kebbi on Friday. He described traditional rulers as formidable partners in the implementation of government policies and programmes.

Muhammad-Augie solicited more collaboration in the area of enlightenment of the public on the activities of the agency, especially enrolment into healthcare services.

“Since inception, the agency has recorded numerous successes which included the enrolment of 11,230 civil servants into KECHEMA.

“We also have recorded registration of 73,874 under the Basic Healthcare Provision Fund and 4,409 under the informal sector.

“About 67 per cent  of the beneficiaries accessed healthcare, free of charge, with 288 surgeries done and 7,347 women delivered under the scheme at no cost to them,”  he said.

Muhammad-Augie also informed the emir that the present administration of President Bola Tinubu planned to enrol more than 1,000 in each state. According to him, the traditional rulers will be carried along in the implementation of the programme. Responding, the emir, who is also the Chairman of the State Council of Chiefs, thanked the KECHEMA management for the visit. He also assured the agency of traditional rulers’ sustained commitment and support for the promotion of healthcare services in the state.
