King Charles III Hosts President Tinubu, Affirms UK–Nigeria Partnership

King Charles III has hosted President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to a state banquet at Windsor Castle, affirming that the United Kingdom–Nigeria relationship is a partnership of equals, that has delivered significant mutual benefits to both nations.

The monarch declared that Nigeria as a nation has long shown that people of different faiths can and must coexist in peace, harmony, and a shared sense of purpose.

The state banquet at Windsor Castle convened high-ranking government officials, industry leaders, and prominent cultural figures from Nigeria and the United Kingdom,

Showcasing the strengthening of bilateral diplomatic relations and expanding economic cooperation between both nations.

“The friendship between our two countries, Mr President, is a partnership of equals that has brought us both enormous benefits.

In his opening remarks, King Charles III described Nigeria as an economic powerhouse, a cultural force and an influential diplomatic voice from a continent that is playing an increasingly important role in the world.

Your nation, Mr President, is an economic powerhouse, a cultural force and an influential diplomatic voice from a continent that is playing an increasingly important role in the world. In a vastly interconnected global environment, one that is changing at unimaginable speed, that leadership brings responsibility – and opportunity.”

Describing the relationship between the two nations as a symbiotic partnership anchored on enduring ties, King Charles the III noted that Nigeria and Britain have strengthened collaboration in shared security, built more resilient and prosperous economies, and reinforced collective confidence in a more hopeful and forward-looking future.

“a deep bond through which we have strengthened our shared security, ensured our economies are more prosperous, and empowered each other to believe in a more hopeful future.

“The many dynamic connections between our two nations have deep roots and yet I do not pretend that those roots are without a shadow. There are chapters in our shared history that I know have left some painful marks.

The monarch acknowledged Nigeria’s rising economic influence and rapid transformation, commending President Tinubu for demonstrating leadership that reflects progress while embracing both responsibility and opportunity.

“Your visit has provided the opportunity to celebrate the fact that Nigeria is investing in Britain’s future as much as Britain is investing in Nigeria’s”

Nigerians In The Diaspora 

King Charles III commended Nigerians in the United Kingdom,highlighting their impact across key sectors including business, technology, academia, and public service.

We in the United Kingdom are blessed that so many people of Nigerian heritage, having chosen Britain as their home, are now at the heart of British life through excelling at the highest levels of business, technology, academia, law, science, sport, literature and the arts, and public service.”

“I have met so many of these quiet heroes in our schools, businesses, National Health Service and universities, including countless young people who have flourished through the work of my King’s Trust over the last fifty years.”

Cultural Influence

In his tribute to Nigeria’s global influence through its people and culture, King Charles projected Nigeria’s influence as a benefit to Britain, acknowledging that the talent and culture have enriched the United Kingdom’s identity and social fabric.

From Afrobeats filling our concert halls and Nollywood captivating our screens, to stars competing in our Premier League and adjudicating our highest courts, so much of Britain’s culture is, in truth, profoundly enriched by Nigeria.” The King added.

The King also appreciated President Tinubu for visiting during Ramadan, describing it as “no small sacrifice”.

“My wife and I are delighted to welcome you to Windsor Castle here on this occasion. We are most grateful to you for travelling during this holy month” The British Monarch added.

Present at the Windsor banquet were; 

the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, SAN; Minister of Defence, General Christopher Gwabin Musa (retd.); Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani; Minister of Arts, Culture and the Creative Economy, Ms. Hannatu Musawa; and Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Jumoke Oduwole, among other cabinet members.

Governors in attendance were Dapo Abiodun (Ogun, Peter Mbah (Enugu), and Babajide Sanwo-Olu (Lagos), among others.

Other prominent guests at the banquet included figures the King described as a “living bridge” between both nations.

Prominent Nigerians ; Maro Itoje, Christine Ohuruogu, Eniola Aluko, Ben Okri, and Tiwa Savage.
