The Kogi State 8th parliament has urged Governor Usman Ododo to implement additional security measures to stop the spate of kidnappings in tertiary institutions in the state.

This call was made during a plenary session held on Tuesday in Lokoja, the capital.

Presenting a motion of urgent public importance, the member representing Adavi State constituency and Chief Whip of the House, Asema Haruna condemned the nefarious acts of gunmen who invaded Confluence University of Science and Technology (CUSTECH), Osara, kidnapping scores of students.

He explained that students preparing for their first semester examinations were ambushed by the gunmen, who shot sporadically into the air to accomplish their mission.

The rescue

The lawmaker lauded the proactive measures of Governor Ododo and all security agencies for ensuring the rescue of 14 students on Monday.

He declared, “It is high time we beefed up security around our schools to avert a repetition of what happened in Osara.

The government should, as a matter of urgency, construct perimeter fences around all our schools to stop these hoodlums from kidnapping our students.

He urged the governor to also motivate security agencies for their efforts in combating insecurities in our dear state.
