Kogi Central Journalists Guild Mourns Rafat Salami

The Kogi Central Journalists Guild mourns the tragic loss of Rafat Salami, a highly respected and accomplished journalist and devoted member of the Kogi Central Journalists Guild and a staff of Voice of Nigeria (VON).

A press statement by the President of the Association, Muhammad AbdulSalam, in Kano said that the passing of Salami leaves a void in the journalism community, where she was revered for her exceptional professionalism, collaborative spirit, and compassionate nature, both as a colleague and a loving mother.

“Rafat Salami was a quintessential journalist, known for her incisive reporting, in-depth analysis, and unwavering commitment to the truth. Her work had a profound impact on the lives of many, shedding light on critical issues and giving voice to the voiceless. Her dedication to the craft of journalism was inspiring, and her passion for storytelling was contagious.”

According to Abdulsalam, the late Salami, as a member of the Kogi Central Journalists Guild, was an integral part of the community.

“She was a team player, always willing to lend a hand, offer guidance, and support her colleagues. Her warm smile, infectious laughter, and kind heart made her a beloved figure in the guild, and her presence will be deeply missed.”

He noted that Salami’s passing is not only a loss for the journalism community but also for her family, who loved and cherished her dearly.

“As a caring mother, she was devoted to her children, and her love and support for them were unwavering. Her family was her rock, and she was theirs, and our thoughts and prayers are with them during this difficult time.”

He said the journalism community has lost a shining star, a true professional, and a wonderful human being.

“Rafat Salami’s legacy will live on through her work, her colleagues, and the countless lives she touched. We will remember her for her courage, her conviction, and her compassion, and we will strive to emulate these qualities in our own work.”

“As we mourn the loss of Rafat Salami, we also celebrate her life, her achievements, and her contributions to the world of journalism. We will cherish the memories of her bright smile, her infectious laughter, and her unwavering commitment to the truth. We will honour her legacy by continuing to tell the stories that need to be told and by upholding the values of integrity, fairness, and compassion that she embodied.”

Abdulsalam said Salami’s passing is a reminder of the fragility of life and the importance of cherishing every moment adding that, it serves as a reminder that “our time on this earth is short, and that we must make the most of every opportunity to make a positive impact on the world. 

“As we say goodbye to this remarkable woman, we must also recommit ourselves to the values of kindness, compassion, and empathy that she exemplified.

“In the days and weeks ahead, we will come together to celebrate the life and legacy of Rafat Salami. We will share stories, memories, and tributes to this extraordinary woman, and we will honour her memory by continuing to strive for excellence in our work, and by upholding the values of truth, fairness, and compassion that she held dear.

“We beseech Allah to forgive her shortcomings and grant her Janatul Firdausi, Amin,” Abdulsalam prayed.
