In a bid to establish a more viable, reliable, and harmonised healthcare delivery system, the Kogi State Government has flagged off a four-day capacity-building workshop for health managers across the state.

The workshop is part of the Sector-Wide Approach (SWAp) under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Hope Project, which aims to strengthen, digitalise, and integrate healthcare systems nationwide.

Speaking at the flag-off ceremony, the Kogi State Commissioner for Health, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Mr Momoh Stephen, expressed optimism that the initiative would significantly enhance grassroots healthcare delivery.

He assured stakeholders that the training would help ensure effective and coordinated health planning and budgeting processes.

The Executive Director of the Kogi State Primary Healthcare Development Agency (KSPHDA), Dr Muazu Musa, described the training as essential for promoting efficient use of healthcare funds and improving operational planning.

“This training, which is being conducted across all centres, seeks to establish one value, one budget, one voice, and one report.

“It will serve as the foundation for developing our annual operational plan while preventing duplication and wastage of resources,” he stated.

Also speaking, the SWAp Desk Officer in Kogi State, Dr Emmanuel Bola Jonah, emphasised the importance of equipping health personnel with the necessary skills.

“Our objective is to strengthen the capacity of health managers, key programme planners, and local government health officials in areas such as health systems strengthening, problem-solving, data-driven decision-making, and leadership,” he said.

The event was attended by senior officials from the KSPHDA, the Kogi State Health Insurance Agency, represented by Dr Adekunle Aledare, the Kogi State Specialist Hospital, represented by Dr Oluseyi Folagbade, and the Drug Management Agency.

Also present were development partners including the World Health Organisation (WHO), UNICEF, and Marie Stopes International (MSI), as well as medical directors from the Hospital Management Board and other key stakeholders.
