Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State, Northcentral Nigeria, has announced the approved 100 per cent increase in the monthly allowance of Corps members serving in the state.
Governor Bello announced the raise on Tuesday at the state orientation camp of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) deployed to Kogi State for the mandatory one-year national youth service.
Governor Bello said the government approved the raise considering the current economic realities given the importance of the national youth service scheme to national unity and integration.
The Governor said the youth Corps Members make significant contributions to the development of the nation and Kogi state.
The Governor was a guest at the closing ceremony of the 2023 Batch ‘B’ Orientation Camp at Asanya, in Kabba Bunu Local Government Area of Kogi State, North Central Nigeria.
He announced the government’s donation of thirty-seven million naira in logistics support to the Youth Corps members to ease their transport cost to various places of primary assignment.
Governor Bello called on the private sector employers of labour to prioritize Corps members’ welfare in their organizations.
Bello charged the Corps members to be of good behaviour and encouraged them to embrace the spirit of ‘One Nigeria’ and treat all citizens as fellow Nigerians, national service transcends ethnicity and religion.
The governor urged the Corps Members to demonstrate diligence, hard work, and shared commitment to selfless national service at all times.
Governor Bello commended the State Coordinator of the NYSC, Mrs. Adebimpe Williams, for the infrastructure improvement at the state orientation camp.
Mrs Williams and the state Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Idris Musa, commended Governor Yahaya Bello for his administration’s continued support of the scheme.
They advised the fresh university Graduates participating in the scheme to be of good behaviour at the corps members’ places of primary assignments.
The NYSC Coordinator warned the Corps Members to desist from absenteeism from their Places of Primary Assignment (PPA) as the youth service organization reminded the youth Corps Members of the disciplinary consequences of absconding from duty posts.
A total of 1888 corps members, comprising 977 males and 911 females, were deployed to Kogi State.
