Kogi Parliament Passes Bill to Establish 3rd University

Kogi House of Assembly in north-central Nigeria passed the bill to establish a third state university in Kabba/Bunu local government area into law on Thursday.

Following a careful debate and analysis of the bill, legislators considered it for the third reading and thereafter was finally adopted.

The speaker of the House Umar Yusuf reiterated that the bill has put to rest the yarning of the governor to create a balance in the state regarding tertiary education. He added that the University will create jobs, address socio-economic challenges and admit students of Kogi origin.

“Education is a veritable tool which brings about development which explains the reason for the establishment of the third state university,“ he affirmed.

Similarly, the bill for repealing the prohibition of kidnapping and other related offences in 2015 and re-enacting the Kogi State prohibition of kidnapping and other related matters law 2023 has also been passed into law.

The said bill has made way for the state government to initiate new ways to curb kidnapping which has been a source of concern to the indigenes in the state.

Besides, the screening and confirmation of Mr Abraham Omora as secretary to Ibaji local government council came the same day as part of House activities.

The House will reconvene on July 8.
