Kogi Poly Rector Launches Foundation In Aid Of Sickle Cell Patients

The Rector of Kogi State Polytechnic, Prof. Usman Salisu Ogbo, has set up Sickle Cell Foundation in aid of Sickle Cell Patients In the state, with a view to reducing stigmatization against Sickle Cell Survivors in the state.
The launch of the foundation took place on Sunday in Lokoja, on the sideline of the 52nd Birthday Celebration of the Rector.
Prof Ogbo said the stigmatization Sickle Cell carriers faced was much more worrisome than the disease infliction.
Ogbo called for aggressive awareness campaign on stigmatization to relieve the Sickle Cell Patients of stigmatization in the state and Nigeria in particular.
Prof. Usman however thanked the state Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo for prioritizing healthcare access in the state, calling on the stakeholders in the health sector to embrace collaboration towards reducing the disease burden, as the Usman Ogbo Sickle Cell foundation seeks sustained collaboration with Government and the media to tackle the scourge.
“I appreciate God for the gift of life and mercy to witness yet another year even as many of my peers have long departed, but God’s grace has kept me alive.”
Also speaking, Kogi state Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo described the Rector as a blessing to the people of Kogi state.
The governor represented by the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Aliyu Umar Yusuf said,
“Today is a remarkable day of celebration as the governor rejoices with you. I wish you a happy birthday Anniversary as you celebrate today!
“Prof. Ogbo Usman, indeed you are a great blessing to Kogi state and the people. May the Lord grant you peace, wisdom and blessings in abundance. I wish you many more years of celebrations.”
The traditional ruler of Igala Nation and President of Kogi State Council of Chiefs Dr Mathew Opaluwa Oguche, described Prof. Ogbo Usman as a dependable son and brother whose enduring contributions have solidified his position as Rector and strong pillar of support for the Sickle Cell Patients In the state.
