Kogi State Assembly Gets First Female Deputy Speaker

Kogi State House of Assembly has appointed Comfort Nwochiola of Ibaji Constituency as its Deputy Speaker, making her the first female to hold the position in the State.

She was appointed following the resignation of the legislator who was formerly occupying the position, Enema Paul on health grounds.

The 8th parliament acted without delay to quickly replace him so that there will be no vacuum while carrying out its duties.

During the plenary sitting, Enema Paul revealed that he has been battling with his health for a while and has sort medical treatment home and abroad with the help of governor Yahaya Bello but he hopes to get better as he is willing to do everything to pursue his treatment.

’The sickness started in 2011 and I got assistance from governor Bello to seek treatment abroad. I am willing to go back to get fully treated,” he said.

Upon receiving his resignation, the Clerk of the House, Chogodo Sule Ahmed called for new nomination.

Comfort Nwochiola was nominated by Abu Jibrin of Ajaokuta, seconded by Seyi Bello of Kabba/Bunu and accepted by other legislators.

the oath office was immediately administered on her by the Clerk.

At the end, Nwuchiola thanked Governor Yahaya Bello, Speaker of the House, Aliyu Yusuf and members for the peaceful conduct of the process and for accepting her nomination.
