KSADP, IsDB Projects Resolves Farmer Herder Crises in Kano – Governor Yusuf

The successful implementation of Islamic Development Bank IsDB assisted Kano state Agro-pastoral Development Projects has significantly mitigated conflicts between Farmer and Herders in Kano state North West Nigeria.
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf made this known in Kano at a high level workshop on Agricultural Transformation and Works: Reflections from the Crop Value Chain of the Kano State Agro-pastoral project.
The Project being funded by IsDB and Lives and livelihoods funds was implemented by Sasakawa Africa Association.
Governor Yusuf represented by his Deputy Abdulsalam Gwarzo noted that, the project has resolved Fulani herders/farmers conflicts through the development of Dansoshiya grazing reserve which aims to be a model in the country.
He said, the reserve has in it, 20 km asphalt road, earth Dam and provision of solar powered boreholes with overhead tanks for use.
Governor Yusuf explained that, the project ensured the development of 3,000 hectares of pastoral lands, a veterinary clinic, livestock marketing facilities, a mosque and a nomadic school.
“To ensure this objective of conflict resolution, the project has invested a lot of survey demarcate monument and gazette 1,950 km stock routes across the state.”
“The implementation of outcomes of this five years project funded by the Islamic Development Bank, IsDB and Life of Livelihood Fund, LLF in collaboration with the Kano State government has helped in poverty reduction, income generation, livelihood support to the people of Kano State as it came with various agricultural and pastoral initiatives.”
Governor Yusuf said the project provides a good foundation for a strong support to crop production and protection, resilient agricultural practices, assistance to small income farmers and cost effective planning practices.
The Country Director Sasakawa Africa Association Dr. Godwin Atser, said the Kano state Agro-pastoral Development Projects KSADP was conceived to address the dwindling fortunes of agriculture.
He noted that, the projects has made significant strides in enhancing the productivity and competitiveness of cereals and vegetables under the crops value chains component in Kano State, thereby, positively impacting on the agricultural sector and the livelihoods of farmers in the state.
The Head of Agriculture, Water Resources and Rural Development of the Global Practice IsDB Dr. Nazir Zaied said, Africa has great Agricultural potentials that can impact the world when fully harnessed.
The representative of Nigeria’s Governor’s Forum NGF Professor Abba Gambo expressed satisfaction with the successes recorded by Kano state in the implementation of IsDB Project.
He encouraged other states to emulate such agro initiatives as doing so will help address food shortage in the country.
