Kwara APC ward Congresses peaceful as party adopts consensus arrangement

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara state on Saturday adopted consensus arrangements in picking its leaders at the ward congresses held in the 193 wards across the state.
The exercise which attracted large turnout of party faithfuls in many centres visited by VON saw APC members participating in the exercise under a peaceful atmosphere while results of winners of the exercise were announced at the venues in the presence of jubilant party members as some party executives were sworn in at some centers.
Representatives of the national caretaker committee of the party officials of INEC and security operatives as well as independent observers witnessed the exercise at various centres across the state.
Speaking with newsmen in Ilorin, the state APC caretaker Committee Chairman, Alhaji Abdullahi Samari, confirmed that all the executives across the 193 wards emerged through consensus arrangement, in accordance with the wise counsel of the state Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.
Samari also expressed delight that there were no parallel congresses by the APC members throughout the state.
Also in his remarks on the outcome of the exercise, the Special Adviser on Strategy to Governor AbdulRazaq, Alhaji Saadu Salahu who spoke with newsmen at his Ibagun ward in Okelele area of Ilorin East local government, attributed the success of the exercise to the outstanding performance of the governor.
“In line with the advice of national caretaker committee and the state governor, we adopted consensus arrangements for all the candidates in the 193 wards at a stakeholders forum meeting on Friday. The large turn out was in appreciation of the governor’s exceptional performance in the past two years,” Salahu added.
Meanwhile, the Spokeman of the Kwara State Police Command, Ajayi Okasanmi told VON that the exercise was hitch-free and peaceful.
According to him, there was no case of violence that was reported in any part of the state as at the time of granting VON the interview.
