As the primaries of various political parties and the 2023 general elections draw closer, the Kwara state Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Science and Technology, Hajia Saadat Modibbo Kawu has resigned her appointment to contest Ilorin East/Ilorin South federal constituency seat in the House of Representatives under the All Progressives Congress APC.

She made her intention known on Thursday during an interactive session with members of the Correspondents’ Chapel of the state council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Ilorin, the state capital North Central Nigeria.

The House of Representatives aspirant, who said that there is infrastructural gap in the areas of provision of toilets, especially in primary schools located in rural communities in the state, added that her focus would be to complement efforts of the state government at addressing such gap.

According to her, her passion is in the transformation of the rural areas in the area of education. She also solicited for adequate funding by all tiers of government.

An educationist and proprietress of a private school, Hajia Kawu said she did her best to improve education system in the state despite the rot she allegedly met, especially in the rural communities, adding that she worked well with the education stakeholders to record success in school rehabilitation, e-learning and provision of equipment.

Hajia Kawu, who agreed that the nation’s education sector is in shambles, said that the education system is facing a challenge of inadequate funding, “especially at the primary education level”.

She described herself as the most prepared aspirant, saying that she had been in the journey before now.

If elected, the aspirant would be the first female House of Representatives from the Ilorin East Ilorin South federal constituency, as she is a native of Ilorin South local government and a citizen of the Ilorin East by marriage.

VON gathered that about seven other aspirants from the same constituency and the same political party, (APC) are slugging it out with Hajia Saadat Modibbo Kawu for the same position apart from other aspirants from the opposition parties.
