Kwara Government Promises To Strengthen Bond With NYSC

The Kwara State Government, North Central Nigeria has promised to strengthen the existing bond it has with the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) for more mutual benefits.

The state Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Community Development, Abdullahi Abubakar Bata made the pledge while playing host to the State Management Team of the NYSC led by the State Coordinator, Mr. Onifade Joshua in his office.

Bata appreciated the crucial role that NYSC is playing in the development of the state and Nigeria at large and urged it to sustain the tempo.

He noted that the efforts of the NYSC in enhancing the quality of education and health care at the grassroots level, through the deployment of corps members to Schools and Medical Centres across various communities, cannot be over-emphasized.

Bata assured the team that an avenue to interface with the Transition Implementation Committee (TIC) Chairmen across the 16 Local Government Areas of the State would soon be established, to intimate them on the need to further enhance their collaboration.

He, however, expressed his readiness to collaborate with the NYSC to achieve some set goals and make Kwara a conducive environment for corps members to live.

Earlier, the State Coordinator of NYSC, Mr. Joshua Onifade had congratulated the Commissioner on his recent appointment, describing him as a round peg in a round hole.

He emphasized the key roles the Ministry had been playing in the smooth running of the scheme, which necessitated their coming to identify with him.

The coordinator added that the NYSC has come to seek the support of TIC Chairmen through the Ministry in ensuring that the safety and welfare of corps members are well taken care of.

Onifade, who appreciated the Ministry and the Management Staff for the warm reception accorded to team, hinted the Commissioner that he would soon be invited to come and chat with the corps members when they are in orientation camp, to further boost their morale and give them sense of belonging.

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mrs. Iyabo Modupe Adekeye appreciated the team on behalf of the Ministry and assured the team of the Ministry’s open-door policy and its readiness to be partners in progress with the scheme.
