The Kwara State Government, North Central Nigeria, has activated proactive security measures in schools, as part of its wider efforts to guarantee a safer environment for schoolchildren.
The measures immediately affect schools in Ifelodun, Ekiti, Irepodun, Isin, and Oke Ero Local Government Areas, underscoring the determination of the government to curtail the activities of kidnappers who may want to use schoolchildren as human shields from renewed security crackdowns.
This was in a statement by the Education and Human Capital Development, Dr Lawal Olohungbebe.
According to him, the measures also cover the boarding schools in Irepodun.
The measures, the statement added, may remain in place while awaiting further security clearance for normal activities to resume.
