The Kwara State Government, in collaboration with the United Nations Children’s Fund, has resuscitated and inaugurated the Child’s Rights Implementation Committee to achieve Legislative Reform on Child’s Rights Law.
The State Commissioner for Women Affairs, 0peyemi Afolashade, who stated this at the second edition of the quarterly Inter-Ministerial Press Briefing by the Ministry of Communications, explained that the Committee was resuscitated to create awareness of the importance of Child’s Rights Law.
Afolashade said that the Committee will also shoulder the responsibility of providing legal assistance to children and families in case of any abuse.
She highlighted programmes of the Ministry within the period under review, disclosing that the Ministry celebrated National Children’s Day and tokens were given to the less privileged schools by Global Hope for Women and Children Foundation (GLOHWOC) as part of the activities to mark the day.
The Commissioner noted that a total of 64 caregivers were also beneficiaries of the support for business start-ups to upgrade their standards of living.
Afolashade explained that the Ministry in partnership with the United Nations trained grassroots and vulnerable women from Kwara Central and Kwara South Senatorial Districts on the composition and use of Bio-Gas.
The Commissioner added that the training would be extended to Kwara North Senatorial District immediately after feedback is received from UN Women.
Afolashade also spoke about the resolution of the State government through the Ministry to continue to champion courses for women and children to prevent any violence or abuse.
