Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has called for public support for security forces engaged in counterterrorism operations, urging citizens not to disclose information about troop movements.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of his visit to three soldiers injured in a recent bandits’ ambush, Governor AbdulRazaq said militants are able to carry out attacks based on intelligence received from some members of the public acting as informants.

He described such practices as sabotage and added that security operatives are making significant sacrifices to keep the country safe.

Governor AbdulRazaq was received at the facility by the Commander of the 22 Armoured Brigade, Nigerian Army, Sobi, Brigadier General Nicholas Nemetne Rume, and the Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the hospital, Professor Abdullah Dasilva Yussuf.

The governor sympathised with the families of soldiers killed in the ambush, announcing a donation of ₦20 million each to them and ₦5 million each to the three who were injured.

He said the gesture reflected the immense sacrifices uniformed personnel make to ensure the country’s security.

Governor AbdulRazaq commended the security agencies for their selfless service and urged Nigerians to continue supporting them in the fight against insecurity.

“We are here to visit the soldiers who were ambushed by bandits. Unfortunately, we lost three of them, and three are receiving treatment in the hospital here. What we can do is to pray for them and support the families of those who died. May their souls rest in peace,” he said.

“We appreciate their selfless service to the state, to the federation, and to the people of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. For those who died, we will give their families N60 million, just as stop-gap support until the Ministry of Defence takes care of them appropriately, as they normally do.

“Those in the hospital, we will give N5 million each so that their families can take care of them.

“Once again, this shows the danger that security personnel face every day. They are always in the line of danger to keep us safe.

“I urge that all hands should be on deck in this battle against banditry and terrorism.”
