Kwara: Governor’s Wife Spreads Yuletide Cheer to Prison Inmates

The Wife of the Governor of Kwara State, Olufolake Abdulrazaq has visited the old Ilorin Custodial Center Okekura and the New Custodial Center Mandala, in Kwara State Command to extend Yuletide goodwill and compassion to inmates as part of activities marking the Christmas season.

As founder of Ajike People Support Centre, the Governor’s wife showcased her commitment to humanitarian work and rehabilitation, empowering women, youth, and vulnerable groups through skills training, health outreaches, and advocacy against gender-based violence.

Her efforts have earned her the Zik Prize in Humanitarian Leadership.

Speaking during the visit, the First Lady, who was accompanied by the State Commissioner for Social Development, Dr Nnafatima Imam urged the inmates to remain hopeful and embrace positive change, assuring them that their present circumstances do not define their future.

She emphasised the importance of moral reformation, vocational engagement, and education as pathways to personal development and reintegration

In his remarks, the State Controller of Corrections, Tolorunshagba Emmanuel, expressed gratitude to the First Lady on behalf of the Controller General of Corrections, Sylvester Ndidi Nwakuche saying, “her visit reminds us that we are not forgotten and gives hope for a brighter future. We appreciate her commitment to the Service, especially in the provision of the Solar borehole we are enjoying in the old Ilorin Custodial Center in Okekura and other assistance she has been rendering to the Service.”

The First Lady presented welfare items to the inmates, noting that the gesture was aimed at easing their stay and reminding them that they are not forgotten.

The visit climaxed with goodwill interactions and words of encouragement, reinforcing the message of compassion, forgiveness, and renewed hope that the Yuletide season represents.
