Kwara Govt Trains Fisheries Officers On Aquaculture Technology and Business

The Kwara State Government has  identified training and retraining of Civil Servants as catalyst for effective service delivery in the Civil Service system.

The State Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, Saba Yisa Gideon stated this in Ilorin at the opening ceremony of a 2-day training workshop for fisheries officers of the Ministry.

The workshop is aimed at broadening the knowledge of fisheries officers in modern fishing technology with a view to replicating the acquired skills to the farmers and other stakeholders in aquaculture value-chain production.

Gideon said the fisheries sub-sector is one of the sectors the State Government is vigorously pursuing to transform from mere providing food for the populace to generating income for the government and increasing the Nation’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

The State Head of Service, Mrs. Susan Modupe Oluwole commended the organizers and assured the Ministry of government support in its drive to make the state the food hub of the country.

Mrs. Oluwole, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Establishment and Training, Alhaji Boni Shuaib further encouraged other Ministries to emulate the State Ministry of Agriculture in organising refresher training for their staff in order to enhance their productivity.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Director of Fisheries, Alhaji Ganiyu Oba Alao explained that the workshop was organised to train the extension officers of the Ministry in order to spread the acquired knowledge to the grassroot farmers and other value-chain operators.

Highlights of the event was presentation of papers on aquaculture business and modern fishing technology.
