Kwara NUJ, NAWOJ, NALVEJ Congratulate Yahya on Victory

The Kwara State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has lauded the choice of Comrade Alhassan Yahya as the new President of the union.

The council said the overwhelming support of the delegates for Alhassan Yahya at the just concluded 8th Triennial National Delegates’ Conference of the union held in Owerri, Imo state attested to his popularity and wider acceptability among the candidates that vied for the position.

In a statement, the state Chairman and Secretary of NUJ, ‘Lanre Ahmed and Mahmood Alaya respectively, congratulated the newly inaugurated president and members of his team on what they described as sweet victory.

The Kwara State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) is enthused with the emergence of Comrade Alhassan Yahya as the new President of the union.

“As a council that has followed through the pre-election intrigues and horse trading with keen interest, we are not surprised at the overwhelming support of delegates across the 37 Councils for Alhassan Yahya, who is the immediate past Deputy President of the union.

“Here is a man that ticked right boxes and etched his footprints in the sands of time at different levels where the leadership of the union was placed on his shoulders.

“Your resounding victory at the 8th Triennial National Delegates’ Conference in Owerri, Imo State alongside the Deputy President, Comrade Abimbola Oyetunde, and other members of the Central Working Committee (CWC) is a testament to your capacity and validation of the trust members of the NUJ invested in you.

“It is our hope that the new leadership of our great union under Comrade Alhassan Yahya would not only deliver but consolidate on the inspiring and purposeful leadership of Chief Christopher Isiguzo-led immediate past administration.

“We also use this opportunity to extend our heartfelt congratulations to the immediate past President for his leadership quality that manifested in the achievements recorded throughout his six years as Primus Inter Pares in NUJ”.

NAWOJ Kwara Congratulates

The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) Kwara state Chapter also extended it’s members heartfelt congratulations to Alhassan Yahya Abdullahi on his election as the President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ).

In a statement signed by the Chairperson, Hajia Bashirah Bola Ayantola and the Secretary, Mariam Abdulkadir-Yusuf expressed happiness  in Alhassan Yahya’s  well-deserved victory.

She commended his dedication to the field of journalism and his unwavering commitment to the rights and welfare of journalists nationwide.

NAWOJ Kwara is very happy and felicitates Alhassan and other members of his team on their  victory .said Hajia Ayantola.”

“We look forward to synergies with him to advocate for the rights and interests of journalists, especially women in the industry.”

The statement expressed the hope that his tenure will bring more development and benefits to the journalists across the country.

Victory well deserved

In a related development, the National League of Veteran Journalists (NALVEJ) in Kwara State has rejoiced with Alhassan Yahya on his emergence as the new national president of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ).

Yahaya of the Gombe state council of the NUJ was declared winner of the peaceful election that took place in Owerri, Imo State on Wednesday, after polling  436 votes to beat his rivals,  Dele Atunbi who scored  97 votes  and Garba Mohammed  who scored 39 votes.

NALVEJ in a statement signed by its chairman, Alhaji Tunde Akanbi and publicity secretary, Alhaji Abdullahi Olesin, described the victory of Yahya at the election as well deserved.

The association also praised the immediate past national president of the union, Mr Chris Isiguso for organising a peaceful, free and fair election which ushered in the new national executives of the union.

It particularly noted the crucial role that the Kwara State council of the NUJ, ably led by its chairman, AbdulLateef Ahmed played in the emergence of Yahaya as the new national president of the union.

The association of veteran journalists prayed God to guide and guard the new NUJ president and his team in the onerous task of steering the affairs of the union for the next three years while wishing them a success tenure.

Exemplary conduct

It hailed the sportsmanship stance of another presidential candidate, Malam Mohammed Garba on the outcome of the election, urging all members of the union across the country to emulate his exemplary conduct.

The association also wished  all the delegates to the conference from across the country safe returns to their various destinations.
