As part of his security assessment and a confidence-building visit to parts of the State, the Kwara State, Commissioner of Police, Emienbo Tuesday Assayomo has embarked on a tour of Baruten and Kaiama Local Government Area of the State.
The visit became imperative owing to the fast-approaching Christmas and New Year celebrations, the need to ensure that the festivities are enjoyed by the people without any fear of intimidation or threat.
The visit according to a statement issued by the Command’s Spokesman, Ajayi Okasanmi was also to douse the hitherto tension in the minds of the people by the statement credited to one Chief Gani Adams sometimes ago to the effect that bandits and Kidnappers have relocated to some parts of the state which was a complete fallacy.
During the visit, the Police boss interfaced with all relevant security stakeholders in the two local government areas comprising the traditional rulers, the security community, religious faithful, artisans, farmers, Herdsmen, Miyetti Allah, Ardos and Okada riders
The issue bordering on the security of lives and property of the people of the area featured prominently in the contributions of the stakeholders, considering the proximity of the area to Niger, Kaduna, and the Kebbi States.
The local government area is also sharing a long stretch of the international land border between Nigeria/Benin Republic, which is also a source of concern for the royal father’s and their subjects.
The traditional ruler of Yashikira, Alhaji Usman Umaru, that of Okuta, Alhaji Abubakar Idris, Ilesha Baruba, Prof. Halidu Ibrahim Abubakar and Emir of Kaiama, Alhaji Muazu Shehu Omar emphasised the need for the police to work in synergy with all relevant stakeholders in confronting the peculiar security challenges of the area with sincerity of purpose and positive energy, especially those challenges of farmers/ herders clashes and the fear of attacks by suspected bandits and kidnappers if their recent ugly experience with Kidnappers in the past is to be reckoned with.
The traditional rulers pledged their undiluted loyalty and support to the security agencies in the difficult task of policing the state and ridding their immediate communities of crimes and criminality even with little or no logistics available to the police to work with.
The Fulani, the Farmers, the Herders and members of the communities generally agreed to live in peace amongst themselves and voiced their preparedness to cooperate with police and sister security agencies by giving timely information whenever necessary.
CP Tuesday Assayomo thanked all the stakeholders present and reiterated his unflinching commitment to providing a watertight secured and peaceful environment for the people of the State, before, during and after the Christmas and new year celebrations.
The CP admonished officers and men deployed in the area to work closely with the people in the spirit of community policing.
He reminded the officers and men of their responsibility to the force and the people, reminding the officers that there are consequences for laziness and negative conduct and as well assured the men of the effort by IGP to enhance the welfare of the men at all times.
